SBL International was founded in 2003 by entrepreneur, Simon Beirne. Literally born into the business, Simon began his education early as his father, Graham Beirne was among the first to import vehicles into NZ from Japan and ran the highly successful Integrity Group for many years. Simon has over 30 years experience in vehicle importing and it was his pioneering vision for a “broker model” that underpins the culture of our company today.
In 2007 the company welcomed Glenn Banks, who returned to his hometown of Christchurch from years working in Sydney as a Business Manager for BMW. In 2016, SBL was delighted to appoint Glenn a shareholder and director of the business.
Longevity of relationships and transparency in what we do run through the core of our values. These values have helped SBL become the largest, privately owned importer of vehicles into New Zealand. Our experience and understanding of the Japanese culture is second to none, with Simon personally spending years in Japan buying cars, building relationships and becoming fully immersed in all aspects of the process.
With an innovative outlook on vehicle importing and purchasing, the SBL leadership and governance team is always looking to the future, ensuring the company is ahead of the competition, paving the way for others to follow. Over the years, we have dedicated our knowledge and skills to the benefit of our clients, building relationships on trust, understanding and professionalism.

SBL International’s team of specialist brokers work with 50 plus retail clients nationwide who purchase vehicles through our auction site every day. Added to our core clients we work with a high number of clients who regularly engage our company for international vehicle imports.
Our team works with a number of key agents, including our main agency Heiwa Corporation based in Japan. We have enjoyed trading with Heiwa for over 30 years, which has resulted in a dedicated team of staff working exclusively with SBL International.

Families come to the Ronald McDonald House in Christchurch from across New Zealand. The houses provide a home away from home, offering families a safe haven to retreat to, after a long day on the ward. From stocked kitchens to cosy lounges, we appreciate how important it is for families to escape the clinical world of medicine, and take comfort from the familiarity and routine of a home-like environment.
